Phil Ross

Phil_headshot I received my BS in Bioengineering from Binghamton University in May 2013. My program was focused on the simulation and analysis of complex adaptive systems between the scales of molecular biology to economies and social systems. My current research interests include applying computational algorithms and techniques to solving biological problems but more specifically in the data integration and analysis of different next generation sequencing technologies and techniques.

Currently I’m working in the Manuel Llinás Lab where we study the metabolism and genetic regulation of the malaria parasite, Plasmodium falciparum. As a computational scientist within the lab my responsibilities include managing our computational infrastructure through data management and data analysis and providing computational support via custom scripts. In the future I’m looking to pursue a graduate degree in Bioinformatics in order to further broad my skill sets.

My hobbies include running, biking, swimming, and yoga as my preferred kinds of exercise, playing guitar and soccer as my favorite forms of entertainment and sport, and playing around with different web technologies. I’m also a huge fan of beer. Can’t forget that.
